What to Expect During Your First Visit to the Breast Center

Plan to park behind Village at Vanderbilt, using the parking garage. We are on the second floor. Feel free to call us at 615-322-2064 if you are lost or need help finding us.

Once you are here, you will be greeted by our receptionist and asked to fill out a few forms. Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment to allow time for checking in and paperwork. And be sure to get your parking sticker validated.

For a Routine Screening

If this is a routine mammogram, a Radiology Technologist will take you to an exam room and conduct the scans. We will send a summary report to you and formal results to your physician.

For Specialized Services

If this is a non-routine visit for one of our specialized services (such as a second opinion, diagnostic follow-up or surgical evaluation), please make sure all previous films, reports and pathology slides are sent to us at least one week prior to your visit. If you have any questions about this, please call us at 615-322-2064.

Please also fill out the form included in the pink envelope you will be sent in the mail. If you don't receive this envelope, here is a form you may print and fill out in advance:

Once you are here, a Nurse or Nurse Technologist will collect your forms, take your vital signs and your weight. In the exam room, you will either first see the Nurse Practitioner or the Physician. If your appointment is with the Nurse Practitioner, additional time may be required to see the Physician.

If additional tests such as an ultrasound or a biopsy are required, this will take some extra time. If these are required, we will do our best to perform these tests on the day of your visit.

After the imaging exam has been read by the Radiologist, the preliminary results will be discussed with you. Later we will send a summary report to you and formal results to your physician.
